Dr. Masharani is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. He trained at Oxford University and The Middlesex Hospital, London. He attends in the UCSF diabetes clinics. He also has an endocrine faculty practice. Dr. Masharani has several clinical studies underway He is working with Physicians and Scientists of the UCSF Diabetes Research Center evaluating the use of medications that can protect the remaining insulin secreting cells in the pancreas after the development of diabetes mellitus. He is also part of the islet transplant group assessing patients before and after islet transplantation. Dr. Masharani is collaborating with Dr Ira Goldfine on an NIH funded research project evaluating the effects of exercise on individuals who are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In another project, Dr. Masharani is collaborating with UCSF’s family medicine group (Dr Lawrence Fisher and colleagues) in assessing depression in patients with type 2 diabetes and the effect of depression and stress on glucose control. |
