- An estimated 20% of all hospital patients at UCSF Medical Center have diabetes
- The new “UCSF Islet and Cellular Transplant Center” is the only such facility in the corridor between Seattle and LA and one of the few certified “Good Manufacturing Process” facilities in the world
- The Diabetes Center at UCSF is also home to the Immune Tolerance Network, the international research consortium overseeing the multicenter clinical trial of the Edmonton Protocol for islet transplantation
