...a Vision of a Cure

Today, Diabetes Center at UCSF researchers are continuing their breakthrough research on a number of fronts.  Recognizing that diabetes is a disease that spans a number of scientific disciplines, they are looking at the impact of diabetes from a variety of perspectives --metabolism, nutrition, endocrinology, molecular and cell biology, human genetics, and other disciplines. Many are world-leaders in their fields. Their research spans the entire range of possibilities, from basic research into the fundamental causes of diabetes, to new clinical trials of powerful new drugs designed to stop diabetes in its tracks.

Diabetes Center researchers are currently at the forefront of diabetes prevention, islet transplantation, new drug therapies for Type II diabetes and more.

Transforming a vision into reality...

Our faculty and staff of the Diabetes Center at UCSF have a vision of the day when diabetes has been finally and inexorably beaten.

It is therefore fitting that in a time of such hope, UCSF’s commitment to finding a cure is stronger than ever. UCSF's long term plan for diabetes includes additional faculty, expanded clinical and research laboratories and a refocused, coordinated effort that will allow the UCSF team to extend our legacy of diabetes breakthroughs well into the future.

And, as the incidence of diabetes continues to rise, rejuventated clinical facilities will respond to the increased need. Our expanded pediatric program will reach more of the community than ever before.

At the Diabetes Center at UCSF, we are intensely proud of our history of innovation and our tradition of providing quality education and care for diabetes patients from all walks of life. Our successes have given us a confidence that fuels our continued commitment, as we focus our efforts anew, with an eye to the future and a shared vision of a cure.
